“Your College Tastes Like Dogshit” – a review of the Asher Roth concert (part of the Roots Picnic) that I traveled like 10 hours from NYC to see and that, indeed, was about the equivalent of dog feces (even though the Roots were hot )

One of the first reviews for Asher Roth’s new album, though a little more negative than the other things I’ve heard; either way, I’m excited - Asher Roth – ‘Asleep on the Bread Aisle’ Review [via The Rap Up]
First, take a listen to this:
Asher Roth - Battle Me (snippet) (from The Greenhouse Effect Vol. I)
When into it my intuitive is awesome, wow / Super duper how’d he do it, he’s a foster child?
Hardly, raised in Yardley, / This rap thing’s a phase, it’s mainly a hobby…
So, it’s looking increasingly more and more likely that this Yardley, PA native is actually gonna hit it big. Aside from already achieving the number 3 spot on the Wikipedia page for Morrisville, PA’s famous people (ahead of both Kevin Enyity, who doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page at the other end of his link, and Thomas Story Kirkbride), his new album Asleep in the Bread Aisle (yeah, that’s really the title) is set to drop on April 21st, and the video for “I Love College,” which debuted today, isn’t half bad. And if you haven’t heard the song yet, it’s incredibly catchy, with a sample from Weezer’s “Say it ‘Aint So,” despite its failure to honestly do Asher’s considerable talents justice. Aside from being heralded by Blogbdon, he’s already been named one of MTV’s MC’s to Watch in 2009, among other accolades. Download his mixtape at his blog, or just watch the damn video already:
Editor’s note: Yardley, PA is my hometown, and, despite what Asher mentions in a few of the songs on his mixtape, it’s not exactly the first place you’d expect a mainstream, popular rapper to call his home. So this is exciting.
Charles Hamilton, B.o.B., Wale & Asher Roth are finally getting some of the respect they deserve, especially considering I called them all before anyone else (I wanted to insert a link there to a post from a year ago where I talk about how all of these guys will be nasty, but I can’t seem to find it). Well it seems as though people are catching on: all four are featured on one of XXL’s three “Hip-Hop Class of ’09″ covers this month. Peep the cover, peep the article and then peep the dope tunes below:
