Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3 (download by right-clicking and going to "save as") *Just to clarify, when I wrote "preview" in the title of this post, what I meant to write was "full, retail album in its entirety," as one of the most anticipated albums of 2009 ended up leaking yesterday, two weeks prior to its release. Now, I am usually the first one to stand up for artists and protest against the piracy of their music (full disclosure: this is not true in even the slightest), but can such an innocent download really be called "piracy" when the artist himself: 1. Is worth $150 million; and 2. Admitted in an interview yesterday that the album leaking early is actually good publicity for its September 11th release:

"I may be the most bootlegged artist in history," he said in an interview after learning the news. "It's a preview. I'm excited for people to hear the album. I'm very proud of the work I've down, so enjoy it...My pager is actually ringing right now, so people are probably calling me and telling me they pretty much like it. I can tell by the way my pager rings if a song is good or not. It's really going crazy right now."

Well, the answer is "yes," it still is piracy. Luckily, however, only the person who hosts the files or the website can get nailed in such a case, and considering I average about 1-2 hits a day (myself and myself later on), Blogbdon has all the necessary safeguards in place to shield you from any potential lawsuits. The new single, "Love Lockdown," is set to hit iTunes "any minute now," and rumor has it that this announcement conveniently coinciding with Kanye's performance to close the VMA's on Sunday is no accident and that we'll probably hear it for the first time that night. Yes, I am gay for Kanye; I don't care.

Speaking of being gay for Kanye, he released yet another single off of "Graduation" and, thus, another insane video to go alone with it. This song ("Good Morning") has always been, in my opinion, the best song on the album, but this video really takes it to another level. Enjoy:

The Douchiest Phone Message in History

I will admit that I, probably not unlike yourself right now, was a bit skeptical when I first encountered a blog claiming to have uncovered the douchiest phone message in history. But now, having now listened to it myself, I can assure you that this is just that: the absolute douchiest message in the history of this here universe. It is also one of the most quotable, altogether funny things I have seen in a long time.

In all my years of studying douchebaggery, never have i encountered anything like this. It’s such pure and unadulterated douche that I wish I could bottle it and use just a drop of it at a time.

The back story on this is that a girl named Olga was out with her friends in the Marina district of San Francisco (known for being a popular hang out for douches), and she talked to this guy named Dmitri for all of two minutes. Then she gave him her card and said “give me a call.” The above is the messages he left. Listen to the whole thing, it just keeps getting better and better. I won’t even tell you my favorite parts because i don’t want to ruin anything. Just listen.

UPDATE: Well, it didn’t take very long for Dimitri (his name….obviously) to become an internet sensation; he has already been named #1 on Gawker’s 5 Scariest Seducers list and, more importantly, has HIS OWN FREAKING WEBSITE called Dimitri the Lover!

Your New Favorite Song: May 21

Just a few weeks ago I posted a final-exams-limited offering entitled “Jonah Hill Day.” In it, I posted a video of Yeezy playing Connect 4 with Mr. Hill to which I had taken a particular liking because of a song Kanye plays in the background. At the time I mentioned that:

“the song Kanye puts on in the background is maybe the best song ever, and you’re probably wondering what it is. It’s his own remix of Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop,” and it’s sick as hell. I’ll try to get an illegal link to it soon.”

Well, “soon” apparently meant 25 days because I have obtained said promised illegal link. The song in the background was Lil’ Wayne’s remix to “Lollipop” featuring Kanye West, and, as predicted, it is the best song ever. Simon’s New Favorite Song

I’ve also decided to introduce a new section this week entitled “Simon’s New Favorite Song,” wherein I project what will be Simon’s favorite song in a few months, after it has already debuted, peaked and subsequently fallen off the Billboard Top 100. This week’s song is only a snippet because, apparently, the online rap stealers have failed to obtain the entire version thus far. But it is otherwise obvious that this will almost definitely eventually be a “Simon Jam.”

Sounds Like Andre is Back

Ok, so for a while there, especially after Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, there was a lot of talk about Big Boi being the superior MC in hip-hop’s best group. Now don’t get me wrong; Mr. Fat Sacks is one of the best rappers in the game. But Andre 3000 is one of the best of all time, as he’s shown through every single one of Outkast’s classics. Admittedly, though, it seemed like he was focusing his talents on other forms of entertainment. But just when it seemed like Dre’s career had gone the way of depression-era concept albums, shitty Hollywood sequels and children’s shows on the Cartoon Network, out of nowhere last summer he started showing up with guest verses on song after song. And every single one was sick. Please sample said flavor below (complete with where Andre’s verse is within the song):

Continuing his return to hotness as the year went on, Outkast teamed up with UGK and put out, at least in my opinion, the best hip-hop song of 2007: “International Player’s Anthem (I Choose You).” Amongst hip-hop legends on a brilliant track, Andre’s verse is the true highlight:

Fast-forward to now: Dre has announced that he’s planning on putting out a solo album this year in the wake of Big Boi’s upcoming solo release, “Sir Lucious Left Foot,” set to drop this summer. Meanwhile, Andre’s return to hip-hop has begun to reverberate through hip-hop, as it truly seems that he’s taken his lyricism to a whole new level. Just what he has put out in the past few months alone is enough to get excited about. I love Nas and Wayne and Hova, and I think they’re each one of the best rappers hip-hop has ever seen. But I don’t think that any of them is able to do what Dre can in these verses: spit it so hot that it gives you the goosebumps.
