Joe Buck Takes it in the Ass on His First Show

Joe Buck

First off, if you don’t think that Joe Buck sucks, you probably won’t appreciate this. Secondly, Joe Buck is an asshole.  Thirdly, Joe Buck’s new TV show, HBO’s Joe Buck Live, debuted on June 15th and was described the following day on NBC Los Angeles as “a trainwreck.” The below footage of the episode is some of the most amazing TV I’ve ever seen, as Buck’s show is, literally, hijacked by comedian Artie Lange, who, seemingly, for no apparent reason, decides to just lay into Buck for about 15 minutes straight. Hard.

Now, I have to admit, before I saw this I had no idea who Artie Lange was.  It turns out he was on the original cast of MadTV and, more notably, on Howard Stern’s radio show.  All that being fine and dandy, he will now forever go down as “the man who shat on Joe Buck for a solid ten minutes straight on the premiere of Buck’s tv show until the point where Buck has literally given up, Paul Rudd has somehow turned into the mediator and you’ve nearly pissed yourself laughing.”  I don’t care whether this was scripted or staged or not or whatever (for the record, I really don’t) because, regardless, nothing beats watching Joe Buck get ripped on:

This is better read after watching that. Not like it makes it any less awesome, but according to Wikipedia this is actually what went down:

On June 15, 2009, Lange made a controversial appearance on HBO’s Joe Buck Live.[25][26][27][28] Lange made several obscene and derogatory comments towards homosexuals and even to Joe Buck himself. At one point Ross Greenburg, HBO Sports President, said Lange “bordered on bad taste” with his “mean-spirited” tone. However, on the June 16, 2009 Howard Stern Show, Artie claimed Greenburg told him, “If [fellow panelists] Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis get boring, you go nuts.” His attitude and remarks caused Joe Buck to thank Artie for being on the first and last taping of his show.

Since, the above has been confirmed, and there has been a flurry of media response to the show.  For example, here is Deadspin’s take on the show.

You got it bro. I fall into the Artie category. Listen - your good at your craft at calling baseball games...but then you creep into football...you critique players and add color to the games and give out a holier then thou....(a la Randy moss)...but just cause your a top notch annoucncer - it doesnt give you the right for a HBO freaking comedy. Your dry...your like 38 going onto 80. That show was classic but for all the wrong reasons. Was Artie over the top...yes...but he was funny as balls.
